Children enjoyed their extended break, but with no play
facilities, swung on the water pump around the school bore hole, ran among the
foundations of proposed new classrooms, still awaiting completion four years
later or gazed at the adults’ meeting.
I admired the patience and dedication of the teachers, the oldest nearing
retirement after working in schools in several nearby villages for decades, the
youngest two newly trained and maintaining their enthusiasm in the
face of minimal resources and a remote, unfamiliar location.
